Commodity Trading

Biodiesel

Kempstar is an independent commodity trading firm focused on the distribution, supply and trading of liquid fuel throughout the United States.

We trade energy: we create markets for fuel products; we deliver railcars, safely, on-specification and on-time; and we engineer innovative financing structures to the benefit of our customers.

Our wholesale biodiesel marketing operations primarily sell B100 and B99.9 to major multi-state retailers, independent retailers and other end-users. Our biodiesel supply primarily originates from both our long term biodiesel refinery/producer supply contracts and our other spot and forward physical market purchases. We generally sell biodiesel at a fixed or indexed price at the time of delivery.

Biodiesel is a fuel typically made from soybean, canola, or other vegetable oils; animal fats; and recycled grease. It can serve as a substitute for petroleum-derived diesel or distillate fuel. For EIA reporting, it is a fuel composed of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats, designated B100, and meeting the requirements of ASTM (American Society for Testing materials) D 6751.
